I met Bruce in 1995, at the insistence of a common friend, I had left the military in 1992 due to total corruption of the leadership, especially of the wide spread gang rapes, murders and drugging of victims. I had little willingness to be around any man, but the criminals are boys not men. My marriage of 11 years HAD been intentionally destroyed to keep me from recovering sooner, a handler was put in my path to bring chaos into my life. After meeting Bruce who had been in a wheelchair due to being hit by a drunk driver 5 yrs earlier ...he was a real man. Respectful, honest, and honorable. But, my trauma so severe from over nearly 11 years of severe trauma by the military and their abusive systems. Bruce was helping me find my voice about the rapes in the military. I was suing the last two senior officers who were abusing me the IG and his Assistant. I was going to national conferences and speaking about the wide spread abuses allowed without any leadership stopping these crimes and the laws being ignored. I would realize after nearly 3 years Bruce never tried to overstep boundaries with me, I began falling in love with this real man, and with it I was regaining my safety. With safety victims recover sooner. On March 5, 1999 he was found dead in his house, the week before we had discussed moving our relationship into a romantic one, we had already discussed marriage. The local law enforcement attempted to say he was suicidal. He was not, his daughter was moving in to go to college, our new life was just starting and HE was about to walk again, using his parallel bars. But, the police never spoke to me. I had called him the night before leaving two messages that had been erased, and in the morning 6 am or so I had to send in a report to a company I worked for. Within a day of Bruces death his sister Diane stated she expected a call on our engagement not his death. I would get counseling with his minister, only to deal with threats over and over by him, and HE told me Bruce had been poisoned, and I might be next IF I continue to speak about military rapes. So, shattered....I had no idea what had occurred.
