I must say that I am deeply saddened by the genocide of Dominicans - TopicsExpress

I must say that I am deeply saddened by the genocide of Dominicans with Haitian heritage that is CURRENTLY going on. Even though I am not Haitian nor do I have Haitian heritage, I am a follower of Christ (and a TRINI-AMERICAN) and to sit back and do absolutely nothing goes against what Jesus teaches. Yes, this is a spiritual issue, but it is also a socio-political and economic issue as well. Spiritually speaking, the Bible says faith without works is dead (read James 2:14-26), so while we must have faith that things will get better, we must also take action. Take a look at the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke10:25-37)....pay attention to the ending Go and do likewise. The Samaritan didnt sit and pray, he acted and helped someone in need and that is the behavior Jesus has commanded us to replicate. There are other examples, and Christians Im sure you know where to find them. Lets look at this issue socio-politically and economically- the genocide of a people is the genocide of a workforce and is bad for international trade with the Western world. Not to mention its bad for tourism within the Caribbean (a major economic resource for many islands)! While Im not advocating violence, I think we should use our GOD-GIVEN intellect and socio-political/ economic capital to affect change wherever possible. I know its trendy to go to Haiti with food and medical supplies now, but its also clear that there are Haitian descendants right across the border that need our help as well. Theres a petition going around that I will support that calls for the Prime Minister of T&T and CARICOM to get involved. The UN and the European Union use economic sanctions to regulate rogue member nations, and the reality is that trade in MANY caribbean islands could be negatively affected by the massacre. I encourage those with major influence on social media like, Dickson Ghost-Recon Guillaume, Bon Bagay, Jackson Chery, Nancy Thasma Anderson, Courtney Bradley Larcenia Cooper, Donnel Baird to examine the wide-sweeping impact of these deplorable acts for themselves and at least bring awareness if nothing else. Ill be praying for the island of Hispaniola, and I will go and do likewise as Christ commanded.
