I only get to see my nephew once a year when I go home to Nebraska - TopicsExpress

I only get to see my nephew once a year when I go home to Nebraska for Christmas. Having him here for five and a half days was basically squeezing five and a half years of future visits with him into a whirlwind week of activity. Im thoroughly exhausted (as is he) but completely grateful for the time I got to spend with him. I learned so much about him - about who hes become. He loves his family, hes an athlete, hes involved in six clubs this year, most notably BRAVE, an anti bullying program, he has a quick wit, he was able to get himself around Manhattan all by himself, even stopping to give other people directions, he has a love and awe of everything about the city. and he has one amazing palate, except for his disdain of peanut butter. We spent his last day at Coney Island where he taught me to be a kid again, riding crazy roller coasters. Im sure to him, all these years Ive been the uncle that lives far away from the rest of the family in that mysterious place called New York. I cant tell you the pride and thrill of watching him experience this city and seeing him love it as much as I do. Hes now more than a nephew to me. Hes become one of my best friends. Hes back home in the Midwest now, but I know hes thinking, as am I, of all the amazing moments we shared, like this moment of us on the Wonder Wheel:
