I pause now to reflect on various days of this week that represent some of the most important life changing events that have occurred throughout my life. First, I must recognize August 13, which is my mother’s date of birth. I truly thank God for allowing her to add another year to the glorious, sanctified life that he has allowed her to live. I don’t take it for granted that many people don’t have their mother in their life so I really cherish every visit, every phone call, every smile, every “I love you” every frown and even though I’m a grown man, every admonishment!! My mom is not on facebook, so she won’t see this, but happy birthday mom. I love you. Next, I would like to recognize August 17 & 18. These two days are special to me as well. 18 yrs ago on August 18, God blessed my wife and I with our first son DeVante Parker. I’ll never forget the first time I laid eyes on him. It was at that moment that I realized that I was responsible for raising him up in the way that he should go, so when he became older he would not depart from it. DeVante it has truly been a blessing teaching and watching you grow from a boy to a man. As we celebrate your 18 yrs of life this coming Sunday, I would like to say I Love you and will always be there for you. Happy birthday Son!! Before DeVante celebrates his 18th birthday on Sunday, we will be rejoicing on Saturday the 17th as this is the day that we will be conducting his nest leaving ceremony!! At approx. 9:00 AM on Saturday morning, we will be shipping him off to college. Yes, after 12 yrs of schooling, learning life lessons from dad, receiving nurturing from mom and constantly arguing and fighting with his brother, DeVante has earned the wings that will enable him to fly with confidence out of the nest. DeVante, I have prayed hard and done everything possible to prepare you for this next journey in your life. I have pointed you in the right direction and I have showed you my footsteps, but I don’t want you to automatically follow my footsteps. I want you to aim higher and to create your own footsteps. Please remember what I used to always say to you “Don’t be like everybody else, be better than everybody else”. Please keep God first and in all that you do and remember I will always be just a phone call away. Last, but certainly not least. I always save the best for last!! Today 21 yrs ago, Monica Parker fulfilled a dream and a prayer of mine by becoming my lawful wedded wife. I’ll never forget the day 9 mos before our wedding day, on my birthday no less, I dropped to one knee in front of many friends and family and proposed to the woman of my dreams. She said yes and we have been inseparable ever since then. Today represents a very special day in our lives. Long ago she was just a dream and a prayer. That day, like a dream come true, the Lord Himself answered that prayer. I thank God for the honor of going through time with her. After many trials and tribulations, ups and downs, the desires of the devil and some haters along the way, our love has truly stood the test of time. We stand strong in our love for each other. So on this day, I want to say, Monica, thank you for being what you are to me. With our future as bright as the promises of God, I will continue to care for you, honor and protect you. I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU BABY!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!!
