I rarely ever feel like I am standing in a minefield more than when a close friend shows me a piece of marketing art and asks my opinion. Deer in headlights. Do I be honest and potentially upset them? (Artwork of any kind is a deep nerve for people) Or do I play it safe and potentially allow them to damage their interests with an unprofessional design? I think marketing art is maybe the /only/ art where you can be wrong about a design. Its not subjective, there are established trends and rules for a reason. And while there is a lot of wiggle room for ingenuity and clever thinking, there are still real, definable pitfalls. It just feels weird and awful to tell someone that their art is Wrong. Regardless of the reason.
