I received this from a friend of mine at Lockheed, Afghanistan is very dangerous. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DATE: August 23, 2013 TO: All Lockheed Martin Employees FROM: Marillyn Hewson, Chief Executive Officer and President SUBJECT: Tragic Death of a Colleague I am deeply saddened to share that our colleague James Lee Nicholas was killed in an enemy attack at a Forward Operating Base in Afghanistan on Wednesday. James leaves behind a wife, Sandra, three children, Ishmel, Ojetta and Julio, and an extended family. We offer our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to them during this difficult time. James was serving his country bravely as a field engineer providing logistical support to Special Operations Programs when his team came under attack by rocket and mortar fire. James was the only casualty in the incident. He was a highly skilled mechanic and worked on Special Operations vehicles during deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. James joined Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in 2011 after a successful 22-year career in the U.S. Army. If you would like to send James’ family a personal message of sympathy, please send it to Corporate Communications. We will compile your messages into a book of condolences for the family. We will also recognize James’ service and sacrifice on our “We Never Forget” Memorial Wall at the Center for Leadership Excellence in Bethesda. We’ll provide more details as arrangements are made. As we join James’ family and friends in mourning his loss, we will remember James with deep admiration, respect, and gratitude for his service to Lockheed Martin and America. He will rest among those we never forget.
