I received this message today and could not have put into words what she did about how great it can be having a CVS kid. Trinity is the most amazing kid ever and this illness just makes her a stronger person! Thank you so much for sharing your story with me Melissa Knight! Hello! My name is Melissa, and my daughter Hope, suffers from CVS since 4 months old ( although no diagnosis until age 3.5 ). I wanted to thank you very much for sharing your story and for raising awareness for this condition. I am also sharing our story in Colleens book and I feel privileged to do so to raise awareness. I want you to know, that my daughter use to be triggered by excitement, heat, stress, and viruses, and carsickness. So far, everything has improved greatly except for viruses and heat. She has learned at the young age of five, to calm her nerves and reduce the abdominal migraine pain. I know that is not the case or everyone, but I am so happy that excitement is not a huge trigger anymore. ( we are still careful though and cannot tell of surprises or events until right before we are going). If she gets overly excited, as most children do, she can still get an episode. in honor of raising awareness, I posted this on my fun page. God bless your family. Raising awareness for Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome and collecting donations for Cyclic Vomiting Association is currently heightened. I decided to post in honor of raising awareness. Cyclic vomiting devastates families. It robs children of their innocence. Fears of an upcoming attack weigh heavily on your heart and mind. It is never forgotten. Cyclic vomiting syndrome presents itself with excruciating pain for the sufferers who get abdominal migraines with it. Along with the pain comes exhaustion and weakness. Aggressive vomiting begins and once the vomiting is over, the violent retching begins. When a child has other medical issues besides cyclic vomiting, attacks become even scarier and recovery is longer. Terrifying thoughts race into your mind, and as fast as you push them away, more come racing in. You never shed a tear in front of your child because you are the main strength, the rock that gives them the hope they need in a time of great fear. The strong front you present to your child is merely a mask, hiding the desperation you feel and the intense pain in your heart when your child weakly says, Mommy, please make the pain stop. It forces families to make decisions that others do not understand. Sometimes choosing to miss out on activities, birthday parties, and celebrations occurs. As much as you want to be there; it is simply not worth a week or longer stay in the hospital and seeing your baby in the worst pain of her life, (only to regress in the other areas you were making progress in). A common cold is not a common cold for CVS sufferers whose triggers are viruses and infections. As a matter of fact, a runny nose is terrifying. Although Cyclic Vomiting is devastating, it is also a blessing in a way. It allows you to live in the moment. You appreciate good health in a way you could not have possibly imagined before. You appreciate life more. The bond between you and your CVS child is unbreakable. And believe it or not, life is still good. It is great! Although my family is not like yours, it is still simply AWESOME! We do things our on special way and still have a lot of fun! Please support Cyclic Vomiting Association *help find a cure*
