I see intrigue Last night two “giants” of Pakistan’s politics thundered. Imran khan of PTI held a mini-gathering in Islamabad while Molvi Tahir-ul-Qadri of PAT addressed several small congregations on a video-link from Toronto, Canada. They have put forth certain demands. Let us have a cursory look at their profiles: Imran Khan -Always pleaded for neutral umpires yet found nothing wrong with indulging in ball tempering and encouraging other bowlers to do the same. -Constantly spoke against “dhandli” (rigging) in elections but himself committed dhandli against Javed Miandad closing his innings at 280 against India and denying him the opportunity to possibly break the individual Test world record of Sir Garfield Sobers. -Declares himself leader of the youth but hit at the back of a youth when he approached him to appreciate his performance at Qazafi Stadium Lahore. -Actively participated in the restoration movement of the ex-Chief justice, eulogized him but now aggressively maligning the same person after a lapse of almost one year. -Greatly appreciated Geo for its role in the lawyers’ movement and now wants closure of the same. -Spent colorful nights with Sita White yet abandoned her and married Jemima Marcelle Goldsmith. - A Los Angeles Superior Court declared on July 30, 1997 that Imran khan was the father of Tyrian Jade; daughter of Anna Lousa aka Sita White and that Tyrian was born out of wedlock. Imran never challenged the verdict. However, he never had the moral courage to admit fathering an illegitimate child at his home ground i.e. Pakistan. Now let us turn to another “stalwart” of our politics; a Canadian citizen. -Molvi Tahir-ul-Qadri - He was appointed Khateeb at the Ittefaq mosque by the Sharif brothers and is now all out to dislodge their government. -Lives in the scenic environment of “un-Islamic” Canada yet does politics in “Islamic” Pakistan. -On a Western TV channel, de-links himself from the blasphemy law while on a “desi” channel states that he was behind the making of this law. - Prefers not to take part in 2013 elections yet is not willing to accept the results of the 2013 elections. -Though took part in the elections of 2002 and won 0.7% of popular vote and a single seat in a house of 272, yet had the audacity to ask Musharraf to make him the prime minister of Pakistan who laughed it off. -Does not have a single seat in the federal or any of the provincial legislatures yet plans to change not only the system but the constitution as well. - Feels comfortable inside a bullet proof luxury container yet feels no discomfort when thousands of his followers, including women and children tremble before him in the freezing temperature of Islamabad. - Not content with four provinces of Pakistan and plans to increase them to 35 yet satisfied with 10 provinces of Canada which is his home country and twelve times bigger than Pakistan. This is the kind of alternative leadership being thrown in to bring about a revolution in this country. Perhaps somebody is behind it? Generally I do not but here, I- I S- see I-intrigue Waseem Altaf
