I want to say that my post from yesterday was in no way written to discourage anyone from searching. I was just very upset by the reaction of this young mans birth father. As you may all know, my own personal story was a disaster. Would I choose not to know my answers if I could predict the outcome that I received ? Absolutely not ! My search led me down the path of becoming a Professional Searcher which is a job that I love and am privileged to do every single day. I think what hurts me the most is when someone rejects a call/first meeting from someone that has taken the courage to reach out to them which not only takes away the opportunity for both parties to experience closure but to hear the words that you were never forgotten. More importantly, most adoptees search because they are deeply moved to find their birth mother because they long to make sure that she is okay, was able to move on with her life and to let her know that her sacrifice was so very appreciated. Adoptees are not greedy people in search of multiple parents but typically come from a place of love and compassion wanting to let their birth parents know that if they are riddled with doubt or sadness with their decision to surrender her/him that they are ok and in most cases had a wonderful life. Its all about closure.
