I was honored to recently be contacted by the wife of Mr. Charles - TopicsExpress

I was honored to recently be contacted by the wife of Mr. Charles Clark of the legendary group The Floaters. She graciously informed me that she and her husband enjoyed and appreciated “Floatin’ In The D,” my musical commentary on the state of Detroit, which samples The Floaters’ legendary hit “Float On.” I was equally honored to talk on the phone with Mr. Clark, if for no other reason, to compliment him on his classic solo in “Float On.” Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Clark for your your kind words and your support. Here are the lyrics and a link to the Youtube video: Floatin’ In The D This one goes out to all of us Who know Detroit, and who truly love Detroit Who remember when our town Was the greatest place in the world When it came to providing opportunities And memories Our roots are still planted firmly in the ground But now…we’re just floatin’ Coleman Young is gone, everything must change But is Detroit mo’ better or just mo’ strange Used to have real mayors, City councils, too ‘Til they started doing what the governor told them to do Emergency management is a loss of control No longer got your city, but you still got soul, Ha Newspapers say that’s how it’s supposed to be But now we’re just floatin’ in the D Check it That’s all, we’re just floatin’ in the D, y’all Uh-Uh, ain’t like it used to be And now, we’re just floatin’ in the D K thru 12 in the DPS Some of us remember when our schools were the best Get an education and play basketball City Championships down at Cobo Hall They started tearing down buildings, schools were under attack Charter schools and private schools can’t pick up the slack Detroit Public Schools is where our kids should be But now they’re just floatin’ in the D That’s right, they’re just floatin’ in the D Our schools ain’t what they used to be Now our kids are just floatin’ in the D State Fair memories always make me smile Everybody’s got a favorite spot on Belle Isle The Detroit Zoo and the DIA Detroit used to have ‘em, but they gave ‘em away Our parents came here to make their dreams go far Good paying jobs, buy a house and a car But the Motor City ain’t what it used to be And now we’re just floatin’ in the D That’s all, we’re just floatin’ in the D, y’all To me, it’s a catastrophe And now, we’re just floating in the D That’s all…we’re just…floatin’ Floatin In The D https://youtube/watch?v=Ic2Lkya6y7w
