I was looking over some information about the DC ballot initiatives on marijuana coming up. I see no way that anything they have written would have any of the intended effects. It would not affect the incarceration rates, possibly even increase them, which they claim is racist. They say you cannot change nature - and will they change the nature of the persons smoking on the corner? That would still be illegal. The theft of goods & cigars, which I have witnessed before, but was in no position to do anything about - will continue - sometimes ending in behavior with tragic results. Again as the supporters say - you cannot change nature - and this will not. I ask others to take a moment and ask what is this initiative is really about? Is it that, like in The Giver, that a stoned population is easy to control ? Think about it, and look at similar plans elsewhere. Simply reducing the fines & penalties has the same result. What is the plan in the end - not now but 10 years from now? Pass this along or share it with others if you like.
