I would DEFINITELY not mess with a Moose especially in the Fall - TopicsExpress

I would DEFINITELY not mess with a Moose especially in the Fall rut time. I used to Canoe Guide in Northern Ontario. I was training a Guide on a trip and went on a walk out of a remote camp. We saw a HUGE old Moose with Antlers in a swampy grasslands about 50 m away. We did not chase or harass it at all like these dumbasses chasing one down on snowmobiles who learned their lesson. (I like how the little peashooter didnt seem to faze it at first because it was so pissed off.) We were at forest edge the Guide-in-Training wanted a photo with him and the Moose way in background relaxing in the marsh. On setting up the photo (we thought in hiding at forest edge) the Moose smelled us and got up out of mud, shook itself and bolted right at us!! My protege noticed the shocked look on my face and the suddenly frozen stanch I has - as he was facing me with camera and not the moose. He looked over his shoulder and then disappeared like Ben Johnson. I was seriously frozen in shock for a delayed moment until I snapped out of it and ran (bounded\flew) a few metres to a huge glacial erratic boulder in the forest and climbed on top. The moose came and tried to climb and jump and claw up and it had wildfire in its eyes in rut. I was just high enough out of reach. I filled my shorts and screamed but managed to snap pictures the whole way. Totally TOTALLY respect Meese now! I will have to tell you how I learned to respect Racoons another time....
