I would like to narrate a real-life situation that happened today. While I was walking to go to a local store, one of my slippers gave way. Just understand how important a cobbler would be at that time!! To my luck I got one a few steps away. He promptly took my slipper and started repairing. I was just observing him. He was stitching the damaged portion in a very different way. I asked him about this; and, the reply I got stunned me. He said “you must always change to suit the situation. In the yester years, slippers were made only out of leather, but now it is synthetic. Our work should depend on the new change that we get. Therefore, I make it a point to change my repair kit once in 2 or 3 years.” Indeed this was an eye-opener. A cobbler, who is not even a literate, knows the power of change, both tools and skills; and we, having spent years and years at colleges, and institutions, never even think in this direction of updating our skills, and acquire new tools. Perhaps, this is what Satya Nadella (the new CEO of Microsoft) meant in his interview with Sudipta Sengupta, when the latter asked him what’s that one message you would want to give young professionals?, Nadella replied “…never stop learning.” Take a “go.” Qualify yourself with skill-sets for professional Project Management.
