I wrote this as a response, to a friend. Delhi and Punjab have been the gateway of India for long. From so-called Aryan Invasion to the Kushanas to Islam to even the British (though they started in Calcultta, it is only when they captured Delhi defeated Bahadur Shah Zafar they gained an all-India nature), those who capture Delhi and Punjab have ruled India in future. Now do I want AAP to rule India in future..? A BIG NO. AAP today represents a different set of politics in three dimensions. 1. Political Funding 2. Political Ideas and ideologies 3. People. AAPs political funding however flawed it may be in terms of duplicate receipts etc is more transparent than other parties today. It is is ready to come under RTI. There are very many good people in many other parties. In fact most politicians I know personally actually start with good intentions to serve the society. The system of survival forces them to do what they do. They are tied primarily because of the corporate black-money funding that they rely on. AAPs emergence and success will force all other parties to adopt more transparent funding. It will force other parties to come under RTI. Hence AAP effect will start cleaning up our political environment, as it becomes more stronger and successful. 2. In 2013 Delhi Assembly elections AAP came out with 70 manifestos, each for one assembly constituency. BJP was forced to do the same. In 2014 LS elections, AAP came out with the best policy vision document that was appreciated by many economic experts and writers. In the din of Modi wave the media, media did not amplify that message. Now again in 2015, it has come out with Delhi Dialogue initiatives. Before AAP political parties looked at manifestos as mere documents for sloganeering or catchy promises. AAP has changed it. AAP is making a sustained effort, again however flawed it may be, to make realistic manifestos that are accountable to people. In Delhi Dialogue initiatives it put numbers for each of the goals it has set and specified the methods. From womens security to employment to education to sports, it defined the numbers and methhods. This would make it more accountable. I am sure other parties will be forced to do the same, if AAP succeeds. 3. AAP is forcing more matured and expert people to come into politics. BJP did not even give ticket to Sathish Upadhyay (forget CM post). Why..? It is clear that BJP understood he had a conflict of interest. In normal circumstances, it would not have bothered. But now, it is bothered and cleans it up. It brought in Kiran Bedi as CM candidate at the risk of alienating much of the party cadres. Congress brought in Ajay Maken. It did not give ticket to Arvinder singh lovely. They needed credible candidates to lead their parties. If AAP succeeds, more and more of this will happen. In summary, AAPs success is not about if Arvind becomes CM of Delhi. It is about cleaning up (brooming up) the political system of India. For that AAP has to emerge stronger and stronger. It has to succeed and succeed. Only then, other parties also will start changing or simply melt away. What is happening in Delhi and Punjab today, will happen all over India in future. It is the start of a journey. Hence I hope AAP succeeds fantastically in Delhi and Punjab. In summary, Indian political system is need of overhaul. All the political parties in India today are either based on certain ideology or castes. Their expiry date is already over. We are a different generation now. India has not only sustained in the last 60+ years. It has become stronger and stronger. Once upon a time, it s survival was in question. Today we are talking about reclaiming our old glory. We are a confident set of people out to achieve great goals for ourselves and the whole world. We are aspiring to be leaders of the world again. We need a different set of political thoughts and system. AAP is not just an alternative for the current political parties, it is an anti-dote to the entire political system. Jai Hind.
