IN NEW TV AD, MOFFITT REMINDS VOTERS OF RAID BY FEDERAL AGENTS AT OPPONENT’S COMPANY Representative Tim Moffitt released a new television ad on Wednesday which reminds voters that when his opponent was in charge of Mills Manufacturing Corporation, the company was raided by federal agents. This raid resulted in the arrest of 59 illegal workers — nearly a third of Brian Turner’s workforce. Mills Manufacturing is a local defense contractor that has received millions in taxpayer-funded contracts to make parachutes for the U.S. military. Turner was Chief Operating Officer at the time. Because of the sensitive nature of the company’s work, the raid had serious national security ramifications. Del Richburg, Assistant Special Agent in Charge for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said that “removing the illegal immigrants eliminated a threat to members of the military who used those parachutes.” Moffitt is a businessman and two-term conservative legislator who represents Buncombe County in the North Carolina General Assembly. Turner, by contrast, left his most recent state job a year ago in order to run for office full-time. He is supported financially by the Asheville City Council — including the controversial activist Cecil Bothwell — in a bid to unseat Moffitt. “One of the few times my opponent has actually had a job with real responsibilities, he fired American workers and hired illegals,” said Moffitt. “He was willing to put our national security at risk — as well as the lives of our men and women in uniform — to line his own pocket. It’s yet another piece of a disturbing picture that’s emerging about this man’s character. As the father of two sons in the military, I find his conduct reprehensible.” Moffitt has received numerous endorsements for his re-election this year, including the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, The National Federation of Independent Businesses, the NRA, the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas, and the North Carolina Home Owners Alliance.
