INFO :: What do the aPTT and PT measure? Activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) measures the clotting ability of the intrinsic phase of coagulation; isolated prolongation in a patient with clinical bleeding likely means a problem with factor VIII, IX, or XI. Prothrombin time (PT) monitors components of the extrinsic pathway; isolated prolongation is most commonly seen with severe factor VII deficiency.
