Every industry has got regulatory bodies that look after companies that trade in various areas; Office of Director of Public Procurement (ODPP) You are not recognized as a legitimate supplier of services and products in government, until you register with it. Exceptional, is on construction and other few services. If you are to go into supplying of construction materials, Stationery, consultancy, even commercial printing ….Its mandatory to get registered. To get registered you need to be registered with MRA and Registrar general. National Construction Industrial council of Malawi (NCIC) This body looks after Building and Civil Construction companies, Electrical installation contractors and construction consultants. Basic requirements are Registrar general and Bank confirmation letter and technical capabilities. Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) This looks after companies that deal with energy related stuff like electrical installation, Filling Station, supplying of electricity and anything to do with energy. Reserve Bank of Malawi If you plan to start a microfinance, Forex bureau or a bank, then you need to get registered with Reserve Bank of Malawi. Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) It ensures that production standards are met, this for those that intend to start eating points, factories, production of any sort of products especially food products. Malawi Revenue Authority If you intend to start a clearance agency, then you need to get registered with MRA. District Councils They issue out certificates that allows you to do business in respective areas, sometimes they can even close your business if you don’t comply with councils. Why do you need their approval? Its mandatory by Law and if you are registered with them it gives confidence to clients that you are legitimate .
