IS CANONIZATION Canonization is the act by which the Catholic Church in both rites (East and West ) , declares a deceased holy person . This process involves the inclusion of that person in the canon or list of recognized saints. Previously , individuals were recognized as saints without any formal procedures or requirements . Canonization , whether formal or informal , does not sanctify anyone. It is a statement that she was santa at the time of death , before the process of canonization. Both the Catholic Church and the Orthodox have their ways and means of canonization. The canonization was made after a judicial process process of beatification and canonization or simply canonization process . The process of canonization is elucidating the doubt about the sanctity of a person. There are two ways to get to the declaration of canonization : • The route of the heroic virtues • The path of martyrdom In the process of canonization proceedings doubt whether the candidate saint has lived the Christian virtues in a heroic degree , or if it has been martyred for the faith is established. Also, to get to the canonization requires the confirmed realization of one or two miracles. The canonization is carried out by a solemn papal declaration that a person is , certainly , contemplating the vision of God . The believer can confidently pray to the saint in question to intercede on their behalf with God. The persons name is inscribed on the list of the saints of the Church and the person in question is the raised to the altars , ie , it is assigned a feast day in the liturgical veneration by the Catholic Church . The time between death and canonization of saints has been highly variable, ranging from centuries - as in the case of St. Peter Damian , canonized 756 years after his death , until less than a year . Among these cases , we can cite the examples of San Antonio de Padua, canonized 352 days after his death , and San Pedro de Verona , whose canonization process lasted only 337 days . HISTORY Saints were originally acclaimed vox populi , ie , by popular acclaim. It was a spontaneous act of the Christian community. To prevent abuse, the bishops took responsibility for the declaration of saints in their respective dioceses. By the care and prudence exercised by the Church in the test of holiness, Cyprian of Carthage , in the mid- third century, recommended that the utmost diligence in the investigation of complaints of those who say he observed had died by the faith. Be investigated by rigorous examination of all the circumstances that had accompanied his martyrdom , the character of his faith and the reasons which had encouraged , so that the recognition of those who do not deserve such a title could be avoided. A holy well was assigned a recognized holiday, usually the anniversary of his death. At the end of the tenth century the first canonical processes were performed , the first saint canonized by Ulrich of Augsburg process and the first saint , Wiborada . Finally , in 1234 , the papacy officially reserved the right to canonization. En1588 , Pope Sixtus V put the process in the hands of the Sacred Congregation of Rites . Paul VI , in 1969 , attributed this task to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. STAGES There are five steps in the formal process of the Causes of Saints five years after the death of the candidate : • Initial Stage : Cause We hypothesize • First stage: the person is declared Servant of God . • Second stage: the person is declared Venerable . • Third stage: beatification , the person is declared Blessed ( requires a miracle attributed to the candidate ) . • Fourth stage: canonization , the person is declared Santa (requires authentication another miracle ) . SERVANT OF GOD The diocesan bishop and the proponent of the cause asking to begin the process of canonization and presented to the Holy See an account of the life and virtues of the person concerned . In any case , it is considered necessary requirement that died belonged to one of the two rites supported by the Catholic Church, the Eastern or Western . 1. Roman Catholic Church . 2 Eastern Catholic Churches : 1. Patriarchal Churches ( Maronite Catholic Church , Coptic Catholic Church , Armenian Catholic Church, Syriac Catholic Church, Chaldean Catholic Church , Church Melkite Greek- Catholic ) Two . Archiepiscopal Churches older ( Greek- Catholic Ukrainian Church , Greco - Catholic Romanian Church , Syro- Malabar Catholic Church, Syro- Malankara Catholic Church ) 3 . The Holy See , through the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, the report examines and issues the decree saying nothing prevents start Cause (Decree Nihil Obstat ). This Decree is the official response from the Vatican to the diocesan authorities have called the canonical process start . Retrieved Decree Nihil Obstat the diocesan bishop issues the decree of Introduction of the Cause of the Servant of God now . Venerable With the title of Venerable recognizes that a deceased lived heroic virtues . This statement makes recourse to the geographical area where the person lived in the most important area that Cardinal Cathedral . BLESSED It is recognized by the process of beatification. In addition to the personal attributes of charity and heroic virtue , a miracle obtained through the intercession of the Servant of God, verified after his death is required. The miracle is not required if the person has been recognized martyr. The blessed are publicly venerated by the local church ( in Spain , for the relevant province ) . The beatification makes the pope or a cardinal on behalf of the Pope , usually in the basilica of St. Peter or St. Peters Square at the Vatican. During the pontificate of papaFrancisco , most beatification celebrations were held at the place of birth or death of the beatified person and chaired by Cardinal Angelo Amato . SANTO With the canonization of Blessed rightful title of saint. For canonization another miracle is needed (in total two miracles or miracle more have died as a martyr) attributed to the intercession of Blessed and occurred after his beatification. As happens in the process of beatification , not martyrdom usually requires a miracle. This canonization makes the pope in St. Peter or St. Peters Square at the Vatican. In the case of Pope John Paul II , the canonization performed in the country to canonize Blessed during his papal travels around the world . By canonization public worship is granted in the Catholic Church. Is assigned a holiday and you can dedicate churches and shrines. There is no accurate count of who have been proclaimed saints from the earliest centuries . In 1988 , to celebrate its fourth anniversary , the Congregation for the Causes of Saints published the first Index ac status causarum . This book and supplements that followed, written entirely in Latin , are considered the definitive index of all the causes that have been submitted before the congregation since its institution.
