ISAIAH Chap. 14 cont. – TERESA’S EASY RENDITION 16 Those who see you will stare at you, analyzing your fate, ‘Is this the man who wreaked havoc on earth, who made kingdoms tremble, 17 who made the world like desert, who overthrew its cities, who wouldn’t let his prisoners go home?’ 18 All the kings of the nations have lain down in glory, each one in his own tomb. 19 Whereas you’ve been discarded without a grave, like a detested branch covered with slain stabbed with sword, who goes down to pit of stones like a corpse trampled underfoot. 20 Unlike them, you won’t have a grave, because you destroyed your own land, you killed your own people. Never shall the offspring of evildoers be mentioned again. 21 Prepare a place where to slaughter sons for the sins of their forefathers, lest they rise to inherit the earth and cover the face of the earth with cities. 22 Jehovah of armies declares: “I’ll rise against them. I’ll delete from Babylon name, survivor, offspring, and descendant.” 23 Jehovah of armies declares: “I’ll turn it into a place for owls and into a swampland. I’ll sweep it with the broom of extermination.” 24 Jehovah of armies swears: “Just as I’ve planned, so it will happen. Just as I’ve purposed, so it will take place. 25 I’ll crush Assyria in my land. I’ll trample it underfoot on my mountains. Its yoke will be removed from them (my people), its load will be removed from their shoulders.” 26 This is the decision that has been decided on against the whole world. This is the hand that’s stretched out against all the nations. 27 Jehovah of armies has decided, who can thwart it? His hand is stretched out, who can turn it back? 28 In the year that King Ahaz died, this pronouncement was made: 29 “Don’t rejoice, O Philistia, any of you, just because the staff that struck you has been broken. For from the serpent’s root will come out a venomous snake, and its fruit will be a flying fiery snake. 30 The poorest of the poor will eat, and the needy will lie down in security. Whereas with famine I’ll put your root to death and your survivors will be killed. 31 Howl, O gate! Wail, O city! All of you be demoralized, O Philistia! For from the north a smoke is coming, and there’s no one moving slowly among its ranks.” 32 What reply shall be relayed to the ambassadors of that nation? Jehovah Himself has founded Zion, and in it the afflicted of His people will take refuge. End of Chapter 14
