“If the police officers and city officials who killed your sons - TopicsExpress

“If the police officers and city officials who killed your sons and loved ones had been held accountable the first time, none of us would be in this room right now,” said Maria Hamilton, Dontre Hamilton’s mother, at the first convening of Milwaukee’s Mothers for Justice Circle, yesterday November 15th, 2014. Dontre Hamilton was shot 14 times and killed by ex-Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney on April 30th, 2014, almost 7 months ago. The Hamilton Family and supporters have been marching and rallying for the last couple of months to demand that District Attorney John Chisolm bring criminal charges against the former officer. One woman in attendance lost her husband in 2003 when he was shot 6 times and killed by a Milwaukee police officer. “Our stories are going to be shared,” she said, “ We are the glue that holds our community together. Us gathering like this will be healing, not only for us, but for our entire city.” “It’s been 14 years and the pain hasn’t gone away,” said another mother, “I fight every morning to get up to start my day. I asked God to send someone or something to me to help fill the emptiness I have to live with. Today I feel complete. This circle will help me and many others like me.” The Mothers for Justice Circle was formed by Maria Hamilton as a platform to bring women together who have lost their loved ones to senseless violence and police brutality. Their intent is to provide a space for healing as well as support for one another in their struggle for justice for their children. They are calling on all community members to stand with them in this fight. “We need you all to support and embrace us as a unit to prevent other mothers and families from experiencing this kind of tragedy. To help and to save our children, it is required that our community stands up and demands that the people who killed our babies are arrested and prosecuted.” The Mothers for Justice Circle plans to come together on a monthly basis and would like to reach out to any other mothers or family members who have lost their loved ones to this kind of violence. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a part of this, please let us know!
