If theres any indicator that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been - TopicsExpress

If theres any indicator that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been played out and stopped being cool, its this video of me doing it. Scott Oldham challenged me to do it three days ago. Which meant I had 24 hours to do it. So Im late. I wouldnt want him thinking I respected his deadlines at this point in my career anyhow. More importantly than dumping some ice water over my head, I have in fact made a donation to fighting the disease at ALSA.org. And that, many weeks ago, was the entire point of this thing before the viral mass hysteria turned it into a worldwide wet t-shirt contest. Ive striven throughout my life to avoid being photographed, videoed or recorded. But my 12 year-old son Jack insisted that I take up Oldhams challenge and post it. Its become pointless for me to avoid the inevitable narcissism of YouTube. So my challenge goes out to all the other old fat guys with 12 year-old sons who wont let them get out of this to get it over with and make a reasonable donation. With any luck this will quickly sink back down into obscurity. Plus Im challenging Jeff Koch from Hemmings Motor News, since hes likely to be as mortified about this as I am... and his son will get on it and force him too. Plus everyone who works at Car and Driver, though no one in particular since I dont want to put anyone who might hire me there on the spot. No, I have not watched this. My nephew Brannan Mason shot it and edited it. Im sure he did a fine job, but the subjects discomfort is unlikely to be easily overcome. Also, a few minutes after we shot this on Friday, the Subaru WRX behind me got rear-ended in downtown Santa Barbara. So it doesnt look like that any more. https://youtube/watch?v=w7SRXa-RPJw&feature=youtu.be
