If we zoom out we can notice how recorded music has only existed - TopicsExpress

If we zoom out we can notice how recorded music has only existed around 100 yrs (or less?). Before recordings, music was only performed (so its no surprise bands make more from tours than on records now). So this attempt by the industry to control, contain, and possess music has proven to be weaker than the human love for experiencing the music itself outside the constraints of any market or authority. The ability to record and contain a performance is not the priority, but a tool of sharing an experience that once recorded, takes on a life of its own weather we like it or not. Its the ultimate lesson in letting go. You cant stop a remixer from taking your record and creating a new creative product from that just for the love of it. Its a grateful thing and a miracle anyone makes a cent off music so I dont get how the industry and related media can speak with an entitled tone when they say our generation is killing the music industry. The generation will bring music to a new level with or without the industry. If anything, the playing field is now more level so more true talent can become heard instead of only those with money. Maybe plastic isnt the best way to contain music, or neither is a pocket computer..maybe the issue is that we are trying to contain and sell something that doesnt like to be contained? Again, its a miracle we can contain it as we do. So Ill enjoy it while it lasts and even fight for it to an extent, but never Ill never believe we were entitled no matter how bad youd have to pry the vinyl from my grip. This is a mutant materialism. No more coffee...back to the studio
