If you’ve been battling an invasion of daddy-long-legs, you’re not alone. Millions of the spindly-limbed insects - proper name crane flies - have emerged in huge numbers as the hot weather continues. Prof Malcolm Burrows, a Cambridge University expert on insect behaviour, said the gangly creatures normally start hatching out about this time of year. He said: “They come out in late June to early July, but it may be that they’re a bit late because of the weather, and there certainly are a lot of them about. “They’re pretty harmless, so people don’t need to worry about them, although they can be a bit of a nuisance if they get in yur hair while you’re asleep.”
