Ignoring sound wisdom? There are consequences (Prov. 1:7-9, 29-31) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of our ability to know anything. Yet fools--those who openly deny and reject the Lordship of Jesus Christ--make light of all wisdom and instruction, bringing noticeable consequences upon their lives. All of us are to have the humility of learners, students and children when it comes to growing in wisdom and being instructed: paying strict attention to what the Word of God instructs us and not abandoning its precepts and principles at the slightest wind of disagreement or offense. When we maintain that learner-humility we receive ornaments of grace and golden chains of advancement. We truly progress under the correct attitude. Yet there are those who openly hate the knowledge of Christ through the Bible, who openly challenge and question the very written Word of God as the ultimate authority for sound wisdom and instruction. They purposely avoid a proper relationship and respect for the God of the universe, spurning His holy and eternal counsels, and despising every corrective opportunity for their souls. The Scripture is clear about the natural consequences of such poor choices: Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their way and be filled with their own devices (31). The chickens of those unwise and foolish choices will come home to roost too close for comfort. The same tools of despising and spurning the Lord will be used against them, not as punishment (at least not immediately) but as corrective aids with the purpose of bringing the sinner back to their senses and a good, productive and God-fearing choice. In the end we all have to personally choose what we shall do with Gods Word, His ancient and universal wisdom, and His sound instruction for our lives. We will not be allowed to blame a prophet, preacher or priest for our decisions (although if they teach incorrectly God will likewise hold them accountable). Will we continue to abuse, mock and spurn His royal counsels that produce true and lasting life for us, or will we humble ourselves under His mighty right hand and repent at His reproof? Will we continue to allow our own human and finite spirits be the guide of our decisions or will we open ourselves to God pouring out His spirit into us and making known His words of wisdom and instruction (see 1:22-23)? The choice today is yours as are the consequences and rewards. Heres praying and hoping that we all choose wisely to follow the ways of the Everlasting God. Amen.
