Ikoli Harcourt Whyte on my mind this morrning As an Anglican, this man enriched my teenage years with wonderful music. The choir was home to some of us at the time. Though I was not a guru in the real sense of it but i started with tenor and graduated to bass. Lyrics like Bianu Ndi Enyim Nile, Jisus Bu Onye Mbuzo, Chukwu Nke Igwe, Ihe Egwu Na Eme Nelu Uwa among other classics by the great man filled my spirit and opened my inner being at that level. Beyond the music, the choir/youth fellowship at the time was more of a leadership training center. While my singing ability was average, my ability as a record keeper and secretary was not in doubt. I was secretary for years and I thank God for it. Those days were indeed fun. Kudos to the late Dee Sampson, Dee Kamalu of Obazu, Dee Walter of Ubakuru Dee Emma of Orodo, Kalikaka of Orodo, Dee Chima of Umuagwu, Ejima Ohohia. of course not forgetting the great Sam Ojukwu who composed the 1984 Owerri Anglican Diocese Silver Jubilee as we as the new Te Deum Laudamus without the old method of NCP.
