Iloilo City launches new brand By: Elsa S. Subong ILOILO CITY, Aug 24(PIA) – Iloilo City has now a new brand, a slogan that claims “I am Iloilo Proud to be Ilonggo” which was launched during the City Hall Ball, held August 23, at Iloilo Grand Hotel. Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, in his message during the opening of the grand civic-socio 75th Charter Day Parade this morning, said that Ilonggos should put in their hearts and minds the new brand with a sense of ownership and pride. “This is the pride of every Ilonggo to claim ‘I am Iloilo proud to be Ilonggo,’ as we put our city forward to development,” Mabilog said. On the other hand, Iloilo city lone district Congressman Jerry Treñas said that Ilonggos should set aside politics and work with pride for Iloilo’s continuing progress, in his message in the same occasion. The charter Day parade was participated in by almost 10,000 contingents from various offices and divisions in the city hall, schools and organizations and some 32 national government agencies. The parade which lasted for more than two hours ushered in various other events, like the 2nd Jerry Treñas Dragon Boat Competition and Jobs Fair at the Robinson’s Place-Iloilo. This historical event traces back to the signing of then president Manuel Quezon of Commonwealth Act 158 declaring Iloilo as Charter City. (JCM/SS/PIA-Iloilo)
