Im from Minneapolis, Minnesota settled right in the southwestern Lakes region so Hamline is a long way from home* (about 15 minutes or so). I attend Minnehaha Academy: for those of you who dont know what that is, its a private christian school that focuses on college prep work and is one of the states top high schools. So Im not sure if Im going to Hamline or not yet. Im also looking at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and St. Olaf College. Its a really hard call to make as I love all the schools equally. As for academics I plan on at least double majoring in Political Science and History; I am strongly considering triple majoring in History, Political Science and Social Justice; and Im also entertaining the possibility of a quadruple major in History, Political Science, Social Justice and Legal Studies. Regardless of the majors I plan on being involved in the track for pre-law but not the 3-3 program. I hope to attend an east coast law school to obtain my JD and possibly do a dual degree program and get an MBA as well (although this seems redundant as most things that can be done with an MBA can be done with a JD). Ive wanted to be an attorney since I was eight years old and now I am seriously considering a career in litigation. As for activities I won the classic debate varsity state tournament in December 2012 and came in second in December 2013 with my debate partner: we were the first team to ever be in the finals back to back and the first team to repeat as finalists making us the most successful debate team in history. I presided as a senior captain and led initiatives such as getting the team lapel pins and paying out of my own pocket for them, researching and writing a paper on the teams history, finding a team Bible verse, changing the teams philosophy, encouraged new students at the school to join and laid the groundwork for the team to expand to the Minnehaha Academy middle school (since all the other big debate schools have tons of members from their middle schools it was a move to ensure that the team would remain competitive as well as getting more students involved in debate). Debate takes up around 20-30 hours of my week during the season including tournaments. Im also heavily involved in my schools music programs: I play the Bass Clarinet in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, an audition only group that has won numerous awards, the Symphony Orchestra and Clarinet Choir. We actually just finished our tour to Washington D.C. with the Symphonic and Symphony. Im also engaged in my church where I am every sunday. Currently Im serving on a church committee tasked with finding a new minister. As for what I planned to involved with at Hamline: Music, Student Government, Religious groups, Mock Trial (this is what Im most looking forward too), honor societies, study groups, anything else that catches my attention as interesting. As for hobbies: I used to build model ships and trains a lot and plan on working on that again in college, I love to read, currently on my reading list are Platos Republic, An American Lion, The Trail, A Thousand and One Nights and a bunch of other really great literature. I love Harry Potter and Narnia for book series. I also enjoy Netflix and some TV (most people do): House of Cards, Sherlock, Family Guy, Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, Always Sunny in Philadelphia (just started this one), Arrested Development, Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle, True Detective, Game of Thrones is sitting on my watch list but Im waiting until I finish senior year: then its binge time for that show and essentially anything else thats good. Movies, Ive seen a ton but I like historical, drama, religious, action, court, legal, bad movies if its late enough. Anyways you all seem like a great group of people and I hope to hang out with most of or possibly all of you if I end up at Hamline (Im extremely extroverted if you cannot tell by the length of this post which I just realized is egregiously long) Go Pipers! Also feel free to add me or message me about anything (except Game of Thrones Spoilers)
