Im gonna give a brief report back of what I saw at the Mall Of America demonstration. I arrived at the demo a little bit late and by the time I showed up riot police were already there in head to toe body armor wielding batons. Several security guards from the MOA formed kettles using a shitty fabric barricade and standing around looking tough. Obviously, this was not enough to keep us contained! After communicating to the protesters near me that we intend to break through the kettle, we linked arms, began chanting Hands up, dont shoot! and shoved our way through the line, eventually breaking through the line and joining the rest of the protesters in the rotunda. One protester, a member of the Industrial Workers of the World, was arrested during this scuffle with security. Afterwards, we faced another line of security guards, this time they had more men and they were bigger guys who clearly wanted to brutalize some (mostly teenaged) peaceful protesters. One of these meathead brutes started pushing me and the other protesters who were right in front of the security guards into people and what ensued was basically a mosh-pit, with security pushing protesters and protesters pushing back. Eventually, we were able to break through the kettle and soon only one kettle remained that was surrounded on all sides by protesters. They gave in once they realized they were outnumbered, surrounded, and people were becoming increasingly agitated and confrontational. I left about an hour after arriving due to the main organizers of the event urging people to leave and a majority of protesters dispersing. Those who remained as far as I know have been denied a safe exit from the MOA and have been kettled in the parking lot where snatch-and-grab arrests have been made.
