Im new to this page, but I have played Slingerland drums all my life and glad to have places to share my love of these drums with like minded enthusiasts. Ive had 7 Slingerland kits through out my career as a drummer, my first being a Buddy Rich 80N blonde maple kit I bought new in 1973. Being young, stupid and to poor to afford cases, those drums took a severe beating from heavy gigging and road work. The 5 piece configuration continued through most of my playing life with the exception of several big kits I bought which I always widdled back down to the BR/GK set up. In the 90s I bought a new set of Lites, 24, 13, 16,18, and 7x14 snare. These drums are incredible and I still have them today. But my main set back then,a black chrome 5 piece was traded for a 1945 Radio King set that I sold shortly after. The Lites were my main stay after that, but I missed the sound of the old 3 ply shells, so I set out to find a decent set of them. I found this set of miss matched shells on ebay in white pearl wrapped in 3 different shades and eras of pearl patterns. They were a recording set stripped of all hardware and tone controls, rust and pitting on a lot of the chrome and pretty much beat to crap. The shells how ever were true and in great shape except for some minor bearing edge work needed to be done. I spent three months on ebay tracking down all the correct period correct hardware and Rocket stands. I was lucky to find almost perfect chrome mounting plates and a set o ma-tick tom arm on ebay at a reasonable price. All the lugs and hoops were aftermarket reproductions, so this is not a vintage set by any means. I also picked up a couple of 90s era 4x14 BR snare drums at a good price. One maple and one brass. Also a BR TDR COB 5 1/2 x 14.and switched to cob stick chopper hoops all the way around. All sound incredible. I spent almost 2 weeks stripping the old white pearl wrap off the shells and getting rid of the old glue and filling and sanding the drum into shape for the recover. I sent it off to Precision Drum Co for re-wrap and bearing edge repair and changed my mind from white pearl to Charcoal instead. Im really happy with the choice since my Lite set is covered in white pearl. Precision did a fantastic job and I recommend them highly. I put the set back together with new Evens G1 heads on the rack tom and snares, G2 heads on the floors, and G2CW bass drum batter heard and G2 smooth white resonant front. Istanbul cymbals all the way around. This set is a player in brand new condition. It looks great and sounds incredibly fantastic. This is the set of my dreams.
