Im plannin for the upcomin week. This makes me sound more - TopicsExpress

Im plannin for the upcomin week. This makes me sound more organized than I am. I was clearin off all the papers my kids stuck to the fridge and found a bunch of notes bout the last week of school. Lets just call that plannin for the upcomin week cause it makes me feel more like I know whats goin on. Among the notices was an invitation to attend Honors Night at the high school. That means the middle-Littles receivin an award. Maybe even a Major Award. I would absolutely lose my mind if they gave out leg lamps. For reals. Wouldnt that be all kinds of goodness? But I digress. The invitation requests that students wear Sunday dress. I look over at the middle-Little. Shes got on an old, worn out Pokemon shirt and fuzzy cupcake sleep pants. Her hair is a legit mess and her glasses are crooked. Now, I know Sunday dress is a politically correct substitute for church clothes. What they mean is dress nice but they cant say dress nice or church clothes cause everyone doesnt go to church or have the same idea of whats nice. I mean, if the middle-Little was left to her own devices, dress nice would translate to a Portal muscle shirt, cargo capris, and Birkenstocks. When I start gigglin about it, College Girl asks whats so funny, so I let them all know about the Sunday dress/ church clothes/ dress nice conundrum. This sparks a discussion bout the separation of church and state and how freedom of religion also translates to freedom from religion cause if you want freedom of religion, you gotta include freedom from religion, meanin that folks wouldnt want me up in our schools teachin my spirituality anymore than I want them up in there teachin theirs. I mean, if we want that we can go to a faith based school of our choice, right? {Oh, sweetbabycheezeits, hold on a minute. I dont want this to open up a can o religious, wriggly worms. Please, friends, dont come out swingin in the comments bout how narrow minded Christians are or bout how Imma burn in Hell. Or anything negative bout anyones particular brand of religion. Or bout how if your particular brand of religion was taught in public schools, the world would be a better place. Those comments will get deleted, okay?} After a beautiful, heartfelt, lengthy discussion of how we all have a path and we all have a set of principles by which we are guided and about how we can assess how well our ideas of freedom are actually workin by how we treat those who dont represent the majority and about how tricky it can be to navigate those waters of separation of church and state in the public schools, the middle-Little looks up from her computer and says, How about if I wear a skirt, a nice shirt, a Pokemon pin, and Birkenstocks? That would cover Sunday dress, church clothes, and dressing nice, right? And thats a little story bout Sundays at our house.
