Important KA Kashrut Alert – Tim Tams We regret to announce that due to a change in formulation, Tim Tams Original and Double Coat available in Australia will no longer be certified kosher by The KA. Arnott’s has made a decision to change the colourings used within Tim Tams to natural colours and will now be including cochineal (Colour 120), which is derived from the cochineal beetle and is not kosher. You can still stock up on 200 gm packets of Tim Tams - provided cochineal is NOT listed in the ingredients – as Tim Tams have a long shelf life and kosher packets are currently still available all over Australia (just look for the Hash Symbol # on the left-hand-side of the Best Before Date). The non-kosher batches will clearly have cochineal in the ingredient listing - so please check very carefully. Special batches for Israel will continue to be produced without the cochineal but at this stage they will not be available for sale in Australia. The KA recognises that there is a worldwide trend shifting from including artificial colours to natural colours, however, this is a pivotal moment where the kosher community can come together as one and request a kosher natural alternative be sought. As a first step, The KA requests that KA Group members take a moment and leave a post on the Tim Tam’s Facebook page (https://facebook/TimTams) to communicate your request. At best, our channelled energy will result in Arnott’s changing their decision and will choose not to include crushed beetles in their biscuits. We also suggest you request that the Tim Tams bound for Israel for export be made available locally at kosher shops. Together we can have a real impact. Please visit the Tim Tams Facebook Page today, please share this KA request with your friends and family. Let’s give it our best shot! The KA Team
