Important notice ~ Please read. I wanted to post this important notice about AHAs used in skin care products to bring to your attention the dangers of chemicals in your creams. WARNING to AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid) Users Below are excerpts from Senator Kennedys speeches. Senator Kennedy has been advocating stronger regulation by the FDA of ingredients used in cosmetic preparations. Alpha-hydroxy acid is one of the hottest selling cosmetic products on the market. This product is sold to erase fine lines and tighten the skin but has devastating health effects that are unknown to most consumers. The agency has received 100 reports of adverse effects with alpha-hydroxy acid products, ranging from mild irritation and stinging to blistering and burns. More importantly, these products make users more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight -- which can cause skin cancer. These potential dangers come into startling focus when we review the risks associated with just four widely used products--risks unknown to the average consumer. Alpha-hydroxy acid used in face creams can be a potent contributor to skin cancer. Feminine hygiene products can cause pelvic inflammatory disease leading to infertility in young women. Additional FDA information on AHAs: The complaints received by FDA included severe redness, swelling (especially in the area of the eyes), burning, blistering, bleeding, rash, itching, and skin discoloration. FDA believes reactions from AHAs are probably even more widespread. Past experience suggests that for every adverse reaction report the agency receives, the manufacturer receives 50 to 100. This would translate into approximately 10,000 adverse reactions being received for AHA-containing products, says John Bailey, Ph.D., acting director of FDAs Office of Cosmetics and Cols. An industry-sponsored study found that people who use AHA products have greater sensitivity to sun, raising the spectre of greater risk of photoaging and skin cancer. ______________________________________________________________________________ Holistic Skin Care note to reader: Holistica and WOW Therapy do not and have never used Alpha-hydroxy or Glycolic Acid in any of their products. In our opinion, in addition to the above advisory, the negative free-radical action of these ingredients also causes damage to the skins cellular pH and myelin, resulting in a thinning and pre-mature aging of the skin. Much of the damage may not appear for many years after discontinued use. Over the last 18 years, Holistica has developed naturally-formulated skin care products, professional treatments and home regimes that have proven to successfully treat and reverse the damage caused by Alpha-Hydroxy and Glycolic Acid treatments and products.
