In Hellenism, The World Tree is situated at the center of the Earth [Gaía] (or Omphalos Orbis = World Navel/Kosmic Axis), guarded and maintained by a mysterious entity named Helen. In religious tradition, Omphalos Orbis was the artifact given to the mad Kronos in substitution of the young, infant Zeus who was shepherd away to safety in the Isle of Krete; it also represented in Pythagorean terms the architecture of the kosmos. According to John Opsopaus, the magus ascends above the Tree to the Celestial Pole, or descends below the Tree to the Abyssal Depths. So, in sense, the World Tree is connected to a form of Spiritual Practice: like a Hellenic equivalent to the Hindu Kundalini.
