In John 2:1-11, Jesus turned water into wine. Why? Yes, this literally happened, but this was also symbolic to what Jesus did spiritually to us. Jesus told Nicodemus that man must be born of water and wine (John 3:5). The water represent the natural birth of men or in other words the physical dimension. The wine represents being born again in the spiritual dimension. The Holy Spirit is the one that causes physical conception and spiritual conception (Acts 3:15). He convicts the world of sin and righteousness (John 16:8). He transfers us out of the domain of darkness to the kingdom of God (Colossians 1:13). We were born spiritually dead because of Adam, but through the regeneration of our spirit, which the Holy Spirit does, we are born again (Titus 3:5). Our old man was crucified on the cross with Jesus (Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:6). We died to sins (Romans 6:2). On the third day with Christ, we rose from the dead with a new identity. We became the children of God (1 John 3:2). We became a new creation and the old passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17). We received the divine nature of God (2 Peter 1:4). We were made holy (Hebrews 10:10). We became the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). We were seated in the heavenly realm with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). We were blessed with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3). Every day we are working out our salvation, manifesting the glory and kingdom of God (Philippians 2:12, Matthew 6:10). We are being transformed from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18). We are being conformed into the image of Christ (Romans 8:29). Subsequently to salvation, we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11, Acts 2). God does not put new wine in old wine-skins (Mark 2:22). We are new wine, in new wine-skins; we are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).
