In Port Loko, Makeni & Magburaka... Maada Bio Donates Rice To Quarantined Families Former Head of State and SLPP 2012 flag bearer, Brig. Rtd. Julius Maada Bio yesterday personally travelled to the Northern cities of Port Loko, Makeni and Magburaka where he presented bags of rice, condiments and water to quarantined homes. The donation in Port Loko was made to the District Ebola Task Force. In his brief statement, Brig. Bio expressed condolences for the death of several Sierra Leoneans to the dreadful Ebola Virus Disease. Brig. Bio said he was in the region to sympathise and associate himself with the people. He recalled that when the disease first struck, in May this year, he wrote an open letter to President Ernest Bai Koroma, calling for immediate action to eradicate the scourge. Brig. Bio said knowing the state of the health system in the country, he knew it will be difficult, the reason for which he urged development partners to assist Government in the fight against the deadly disease. He lamented the worrying state of the disease which has spread to every part of the country from Kailahun. Brig. Bio told his audience that the fight against Ebola is non partisan and called for a concerted effort to end the scourge at least before the end of the year. He paid glowing tribute to health workers, nurses, doctors the burial teams for the sacrifice they are making. He also thanked the security forces for maintaining law and order throughout the country. Receiving the items on behalf of the Port Loko Ebola Task Force, was the Senior District Officer, Mohamed Sheik Kargbo who expressed his appreciation. He said he was moved by the sense of unity displayed by Brig. Bio. He assured that the donation will bring the much needed relief to the seventy six households that had been quarantined in the district. Earlier in her statement, Brig. Bio’s former running mate, Dr Kadi Sesay described Brig. Julius Maada Bio as a patriot and a selfless Politician who left his precious assignment in the UK to come home and joined the government and people of Sierra Leone to fight the disease. She said the items which included 50 bags of rice, condiments, bathing soaps, and other items were meant to give the necessary relief to quarantined persons in the district. Statements were made by the Acting Northern Region Chairman of the SLPP, Alhaji Alpha Kallon and the Deputy Chairman, Port Loko District Council, Ibrahim Bangura. Brig.
