In all the craziness that has happened this week at school, I was - TopicsExpress

In all the craziness that has happened this week at school, I was so ready for Christmas break. Then, out of nowhere, I received the sweetest little blessing. A mom came in the office and asked to speak to the school nurse. I assumed it would be about a childs illness or a new medication...or maybe even a complaint. When I went into the office, this mom took my hand and held it while she thanked me for taking care of her son. I didnt recognize her so I asked her who her son was. Turns out her son is the quiet boy who comes to see me nearly every day---ALWAYS with a stomach ache---which is always easily cured with some crackers or a snack. He only stays in my office a few minutes each day. While there, I ask him about his grades, his tests, life goals, girls, weekend plans, etc.etc. I also remind him everyday to pull his pants up. He always smiles, pulls his pants up, shyly answers my questions, and thanks me. He doesnt really say a whole lot. Im usually doing most of the talking. Everyday I wonder why he really comes to my office each day. Mom shared part of his history with me. I never knew he had been in trouble before or that he had been involved with the wrong people. Mom said there had been some tough days but he was doing better. She said she wanted me to know that because she knew he trusted me. She told me he spoke of me often at home, told her I was always nice to him even when I was fussing at him to pull up his pants. She said he called me his White Mama......she hugged me and said she just wanted to meet me and thank me for helping her raise her baby. A That was the sweetest thing ever. And so unexpected. She made me cry. She really did. It made my day that she took the time to share that with me. But, for me, the real blessing was hearing that he spoke so highly of me. I am just so blessed to work where I do. Being the school nurse is great but I have to admit, theres no job title better than being the White Mama. So, you can bet Im going to keep reminding my boys to pull their dang pants up---with love, of course. While youre saying your prayers, Id really appreciate it if you add this boy to your list. Christmas break is great but it gives teens idle time to make bad choices. Have a safe, heathy, happy Christmas break.
