In answer to Barbaras post about Reserve: Peter Lawford was an English actor, member of the “Rat Pack,” and brother-in-law to President John F. Kennedy. I will never forget the flight he was on. It was an evening of panic. I was on RESERVE which meant I had to stand by for a call from Crew Schedule for the opportunity to fly. The phone rang. I answered, and a panicky voice at the other end said, “Hurry!” They thought the flight had a stewardess scheduled, but something had occurred, and there was no stewardess. The plane door could not close for takeoff until a replacement was in place. Oh, dear! “We need you now, because it has passengers on board and the plane is ready to push off.” Being thirty minutes from the airport, I surely wasn’t ready when they called; I panicked. Usually, we had more notice to get ourselves going. Hurriedly, I threw on my uniform, drove like fury, and made it quickly through operations and up the stairs to the plane. A gentleman greeted me at the door of the plane with a welcoming kiss, hug, and salutation. That gentleman was Peter Lawford. The passengers responded to the theatrics of the moment, and the flight was a delightful time from Los Angeles to New York, even though we got there late. THIS is one of the many bits of fun in my book: More Than a Ticket
