In case you missed my speech in Wilson park yesterday. Good morning I am Amy, a member of the North West Shoals Action Committee. Welcome to the Doctor Martin Luther King Junior 4 Mile March, calling for police and systemic reform. We want to Thank you for being here to support this movement for the clutter clearing of our judicial system. Today in Florence, Alabama, we have realized this is not the uncultured, racist state we worried it was. Congratulations because we are doing the most important, brave, and empowering thing we have done up to this point in our lives. So give yourself a hand, youve earned it!!! This is a PEACEFUL march!!! Peace is everyones responsibility! If you notice someone who looks like they may become violent or start destroying our city please act. We dont want our peace shattered by one aggressor. Together we can peacefully celebrate The Doctors Dream coming to fruition and keep our beautiful home safe. Quick note for all the social media masters we are sharing this event useing the hashtags 4milemarch, wakeupandresearch, and wematter. This will help keep our event media together and make it easier to find it later. Preparations for this event have been a chaotic whirl wind of excitement and fear, but the biggest complication we have faced is confusion due to the many definitions one word or phrase can have. So I am gonna try my best to bring everyone to the same page so we can all clearly communicate our messages and understand the perspective of others. The biggest miscommunication has been the slogans black lives matter verses all lives matter. So I am asking you to please consider what I am saying here so we can all clearly understand each other and see life through the eyes of another. Saying black lives matter is not saying Only black lives matter. I am going to repeat this. Saying black lives matter is NOT saying ONLY black lives matter. It is saying Black lives matter too! It is a specifically inclusive phrase. It is asking us to take a moment to understand what a specific community is going through. It is putting a spotlight on that community as we all ask for love and support, and change. It has taken way too many black lives for people to see the police problem that has been spreading through every community. Do you remember the tent cities in St. Petersburg, Florida being raided by the cops? Tents were slashed creating homeless, and we were horrified, yet no one was beaten or killed. However, when a black person is beaten and killed by a cop we emotionally check out. The corporate media uses extremist language to turn off our ability to listen and create buzz words. Have you ever been in a conversation where a word or phrase you used shut off someones ability to listen to you, even though what they heard wasnt what you meant? You met a buzz word. These shut down switches keeping us from understanding what someone actually means when they use a word we dont like. To work around this reflex we can start by asking what does the person speaking actually mean? Puzzling out the meaning from the context in which the word was used. This is how we will begin to bridge the gap and understand each other. Black people we are sorry it has taken us so long to wake up and research. We are sorry so many of your family has died for us to see. We love you. We hear you. We know black lives matter. It is time to be specifically inclusive. If you believe all lives matter it is safe to say black lives matter. Black lives matter because we matter. Brown lives matter because we matter. Asian lives matter because we matter. Indigenous lives matter because we matter. White lives matter because we matter. Immigrant lives matter because we matter. Homeless lives matter because we matter. Mentally ill lives matter because we matter. Children lives matter because we matter. Senior lives matter because we matter. Womens lives matter because we matter. Mens lives matter because we matter. Youth lives matter because we matter. If your group isnt represented then it is time for you to be specifically inclusive and be your voice. Take care of yourself, because you ~>ARE
