In the 1920’s RADIO became popular. As Radio shows grew more complex, they looked for ways to pay for them. The Radio producers, the station owners discussed the idea of having companies pay for advertizing. People who created the shows were horrified with the idea that the public, who tuned in to listen to their ART, would then have to be subjected to some crass ad. They could not imagine the idea of INVADING people’s homes like that. They thought it to be RUDE and impolite. They pictured the idea of commercials coming into people’s living rooms as MONSTERS. They even imagined that people would literally throw their radios out of the window. This kind of sensitivity is so far gone now, that people will not even believe what I am writing. But I promise you. That if I am 20 feet away from a TV or radio, and a commercial comes on, I will scream until I mute it, because my sensitivity is intact. As an artist, I have no defenses or walls.
