In the June 13 edition of The Taos News, as the town and county governments continue to haggle over who should pay for and operate dispatch operations, first responders across the area say much of the system is in disrepair and poses an immediate threat to public safety. Despite a brief storm that delayed the start of the largest-ever Taos Solar Fest by one hour Thursday evening (June 6), town officials pronounced the event a success. Businesses owners, however, did not all have such a positive experience. A second wildfire was sparked in the Pecos Wilderness Monday (June 10) as dry, hot and windy conditions persist in Northern New Mexico. In sports, being the home team has definitely been an advantage for the Taos Blizzard even when they are on the road. When batting last, the Blizzard are 8-2 so far this season, most recently taking two of the first three games against White Sands Pupfish in a four-game series (June 8-11). In Tempo, the Shanghai Quartet open the 51st Taos School of Music Festival season, the Taos Arts Council speaks out about the need for communication and partnership, plus three renowned Taos artists are named to be recognized for their "Distinguished Achievement."
