In the election of six members of the Williamson County school - TopicsExpress

In the election of six members of the Williamson County school board, each candidate will be listed on the ballot without party designation. This is a provision of state law. In the code of ethics statement that members sign, there is a commitment to non-partisan status. Some board members are visibly active in party politics, most in Williamson County are not. Yet any holder of public office brings a personal ideology—liberal, conservative, religious, non-religious—which influence votes which affect the education of our children. Today, more than any time I can remember, there is a presence of political activist groups sponsoring candidates for school boards and county commission positions. Some of these activist groups have within their objectives specific statements that are unabashedly detrimental to public education. Before you vote on August 7, I would encourage you to research the candidates and see what political activist affiliations each candidate brings. We have great administrative leadership as validated by our recognition as the highest performing school district in the country, but there are enough contested races that with voter apathy the future of the school district could be at risk.
