In the famous Interview of Golda Meir, conducted by Frank Giles in 1969, Golda said, in passing, “There was no such thing as Palestinians. When was there an independent Palestinian people with a Palestinian State? It was either southern Syria before the First World War, and then it was a Palestine including Jordan. It was not as though there was a Palestinian people in Palestine considering itself as a Palestinian people and we come and threw them out and took their country away from the. They did not exist.” In my humble, American, opinion there is a conceptual error here, and Everyone involved, Israeli & Arab alike would do well to read and digest Martin Buber’s book, “I And Thou.” In fact, it should be required reading in every school in Israel and so-called “Palestine.” I agree that the words “Palestine” and “Palestinian” are problematic. It is my thesis, derived from Martin Buber, via Rivka Sigal, that the British re-invented the phrase – a vestige & relic from Roman Imperialism – in order to confuse, and obfuscate the “ethnic” situation in the Mandate, so that they could engage in the old Roman axiom of “Divide and Rule.” So, while there is some truth in what Golda Meir said, that aspect of her thought that denigrated and held the so-called “Palestinians” as both “Other” and also “Lesser” has contributed to the problem that we have today. In truth it is a case of “Stolen Identity” – which was the point that Tsvi Jekhorin Misinai, and Christine Darg made in a video interview by the Joppa Gate. { See: DNA Dynamite! Are Palestinians Jews?, on youtube] – But it is more than that: It is also a case of Non-Recognition – by a sufficient Plurality of People on both sides of the fence. Most certainly a case of non-recognition of the essential Humanity and Relatedness of the Other. Because the so-called “Palestinian” people do (italics) exist. They have Being. (italics) Here is a Scripture that may have some bearing on this quandary: Isaiah 25:7. It speaks of the “Veil.” Of course, there is a veil that separates man from G-D. But there is also a Veil that separates the People. “This Mountain” of course refers to Mount Zion – and not the earthly one, in the Western Quarter of the Old City, but the heavenly one, in which G-D dwells… And he will destroy in this mountain (Zion) the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations... biblehub/isaiah/25-7.htm
