In the morning drove to the Boeing plant at Everett, Washington - TopicsExpress

In the morning drove to the Boeing plant at Everett, Washington for a 90 minute tour of the facility. Unfortunately no cameras are allowed on the tour. After first watching a 6 minute film we boarded a bus to visit the main assembly plant building, which has the distinction of being the largest building in the world by volume. To put it into perspective, the tour guide said you could fit 11 Empire State buildings into the plant. We saw aircraft parts in various stages of production from a balcony high up that you would not want to look down too long. Later we walked through a tunnel under the plant that was about 3/4 mile long. It was mind boggling how the whole process of building a plane is co-ordinated, but apparently they can build a 747-800 in about one year. Also on show outside the plant was a Dreamlifter, which is one of four planes of its kind that Boeing use to transport aircraft parts. Following the tour I decided to look around the main visitor building, which describes the history of Boeing and various aviation topics. After lunch went to the Woodland zoo. Yes I have been to a fair number of zoos in the last few years, but as this Zoo was a coupon in a CityPass booklet I bought before then trip, I felt a had to use it. Weather was great today, and I noticed I have really caught the sun - my face is quite red on the forehead.
