In this country and context I have Christian privilege. I have never been oppressed for my beliefs. I have never been singled out for my beliefs. No one has ever assumed awful things and hurt me or any other Christians that I know for our beliefs. People dont make gross generalizations about me for my beliefs. I am free to practice my religion, and I can even practice it in various public settings without being attacked verbally or physically for it. Thats a good thing. I am blessed. I have no right to tell a Muslim, Atheist, or Jewish person that they do not experience oppression, harassment, and hate crimes based solely on their choice to worship differently than most religious people in this country. They are treated terribly. According to hate crime stats, Jewish people are most likely to be attacked in religious hate crimes. Muslim people are stereotyped and when a person commits a crime who happens to be Muslim, his religion is mentioned as if to imply that his beliefs are relevant to the crime. People even mistake Hindus for Muslims and treat them adversely for it. I have Christian privilege, even though Im not the Pope, a famous minister, or famous prophet. I benefit from Christian privilege, and my acknowledgement of that means that Im a person with empathy. I am not a bad person. People realize that I had nothing to do with the Inquisition, and I doubt that anyone assumes that I had anything to do with. Its actually a bit strange to even mention the Inquisition in conversations about my personal religious privilege in 2014 America. I gain nothing from denying the experiences and feelings of people who have been oppressed for their religion in this country. White privilege works the same way in this country. #Whiteprivilege
