In today’s Gospel, Jesus says to the rich young man: ‘If you wish to be perfect, go and sell what you own and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’ However, the young man leaves this conversation with a heavy heart because he was not ready to part ways with his worldly wealth. We are challenged by Jesus to detach ourselves from worldly things so that we may pay attention to what is truly important: our relationships with our neighbor and with God. We must not let ourselves be carried away by greed and selfishness, by an unhealthy obsession with wealth, power and fame. Today, ask the Spirit for the grace to be able to live life with a healthy disposition towards what is worldly and for the grace to yearn for what is truly important.
