Incarcerated pro-freedom leaders come with unique poll boycott campaign =>The separatist camp here despite being detained at large has come up with a unique idea of propagating the election boycott. It has created short video clips being made viral on social networking sites and applications including Facebook and Whatsapp. According to the KNS correspondent, a short video clip of four minutes of durationhas gone viral on social networking sites with the video messages of Huriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani,Huriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi. The video message being sent onwhatsapp and shared on Facebook and twitter asks the people here to vigorously boycott the coming assembly elections. It also shows Geelani addressing the gathering via phone wherein he asks youth not to undermine the mission of the ‘martyrs’. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is seen posing for the camera with the appeal thatpolls must be boycotted by the people here ‘en-masse’. The video starts with the song-eulogizing the people of Kashmir. It then shifts towards the lecture given by Geelani who in his message asks youth to boycott elections. It also shows the senior separatist reciting the poetry of Alama Iqbal in front of the camera. “My appeal tothe youth in particular is that the sacrificesrendered by the people must be safeguarded and hence in no way should vote during elections.” Mirwaiz in a video clip said that the people must understand their role vis-à-vis the ongoing movement and that people have sacrificed their livers for a cause and elections cannot be the substitute to the right to self determination. “We appeal people to boycott the coming polls so that we could prove our solidarity with those who have sacrificed their today for our tomorrow,” clip showing Mirwaiz said. Asiya Andrabi also castigates the state authorities for the conduction of the polls, saying that the utmost priority of the people of Jammu and Kashmir must be to boycott the elections. The clip marks the re-entry of Syed Ali Geelani saying, “One point program- Election boycott Shahar-o-Gham.” The clip is followed by Asiya Andrabi and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, saying ‘Boycott Boycott election boycott’. The video clip ends with the video of Syed Ali Geelani at Kulgam wherein anti-poll slogans are raised. Later the clip also shows JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik raising slogans of election boycott during a rally. Pertinently, the state authorities in the recent past cracked whip against the separatist camp, detaining them at various sub jails in Kashmir. The state police chief later stated that no one will beallowed to disrupt the poll process in Jammu and Kashmir. He also pledged that the police have prioritized the conduction of polls in the most conducive atmosphere.(KNS)
