Indeed, there are better ways. !2-steps are founded on the premise that to truly receive help one must first hit bottom. If you join a 12-step rehab of some kind to ask for help before hitting bottom, the other steppers will make damn sure you hit it before offering the rest of the help. Almost bottom is not close enough.. Kind of like bootcamp: you must be utterly extinguished, then you can be remade in the right manner. It has become a cult, a sugar-fueled and caffeine-jacked parody of the addictions it purports to treat.
