India celebrates its 68th Independence Day today. So this Independence Day I am listing some of my favourite movies which made many proud to be Indian. Bollywood has made a lot of movies in the past years dedicated to the country, the freedom struggle and there are also some movies which just show the love one should have for their country or rather shows the patriotic spirit. These are my picks : 1. Rang De Basanti Honestly, we dont get to relish such treats on the silver screen very often. Rang De Basanti stays with us for many hours after the film is over. Kudos to Rakeysh Mehra for presenting the real stuff so outstandingly. Right from the inception till the conclusion, the films core theme – that of freedom and justice – is engaging and moving enough to be tagged as an absolute masterwork on patriotism. 2. Lagaan Thanks to its concept, the epic drama instantly connects with the masses. Set against the British Raj, Lagaan superbly exhibits patriotism in a unique way - through a game of bat & ball, and not merciless murders. 3. Border Based on the Indo-Pak war of 1971, Border is an explosive screen-outing. Packed with brilliant performances as well as melodious, touching background score - this war epic convinclingly presents the Battle of Longewala. The film tells us how a band of just 120 soldiers of the Punjab regiment of the Indian Army triumphantly protect their post all night against a whole battalion troop of the Pak Army, until the next morning when the Indian Air Force sends help. 4. Chak De India This ground-breaking sports drama not only highlights a patriotic angle beautifully, but also underlines gender equality with conviction. SRK, in one of his best screen-recitals by far, as a no-nonsense hockey coach, dives under the skin of the emotional yet unwavering role, making it his own.. 5. Legend Of Bhaghat Singh Rajkumar Santoshi was certainly shouldering a huge responsibility when he decided to recreate history for the 70 MM screens. He very well knew that his creation would be scrutinized with utmost loyalty by the devoted cine-buffs. But we must mention that he clearly won the day. The historic biographical film may not have gathered impressive BO numbers, but the film went on to satiate the quality-hungry crowds. Ajay Devgn, in the title role, easily warms the cockles of fans and critics hearts alike - courtesy his power packed performance. 6. 1942 A Love Story Keeping a love story at the heart of the film, Vidhu Vinod Chopra quite convincingly made Indias freedom struggle its soul. Set in 1942 during the British Raj, 1942 A Love Story presents a romantic saga during the politically agitated period that gradually spawns a passionate revolution for Indias fight for independence.
