*Indian Media* “BITS Goa student lands 1.4 crore offer from Google” Congratulations to Krunal Kishorbhai Patel for getting a 1.4 crore job offer from Google. Now let me talk about Indian Media. Does India have no other problem to put on their front page? What happened to science? Learning? Discovering new things in life? I just looked up “Research in IIT”. The first page contains nothing but links to official websites of different IITs’ research. On 2nd page, I found one media related link: Applying Research at IIT-B | Zee News On 3rd page, I found one media link IIT Bombay to launch 100 crore research park in July. No media/newspaper links regarding research in IITs on 4th page! And I didnt have enough courage to check furthermore. Ask yourself: has a great scientific discovery ever been highlighted in the newspaper? Whats the last one you remember? NONE, right? The point that needs to be made here is how appalling the Indian media and society is. Even though we Indians tend to show we care show much about academics and education, but actually, we are not interested in education. We are interested in who grabbed package of how much from which college. When I read these articles, they bring nothing but disgust and disappointment. And I am sure I am not the only one who thinks so. What meaning do they convey, to anyone out there reading it except the high-flying individuals who are pocketing the salaries. (Don’t get me wrong here, or think that I am jealous of him. I got internship at one of the biggest smartphone companies, but I informed only 3-4 close friends, because for others it doesnt matter what I do.) And same is the case with these articles. We read these, we realize how much money some people are making, and we feel sad. And then we complain about our lives. But arent we the same people who want these articles at first place? It has become a tendency of ours to derive our daily dose of gossip from learning who topped IIT-JEE, and where they are from, and all about their lives, all the way unto who pocketed the most money. And furthermore we talk about memes of a CBSE topper! Theres no point in denying we have become like that. And, theres a reason the media publishes what it does: The audience loves it. And THAT is disgraceful! Nobody from any other country has the kind of sick attitude we do. Just like we Indians, other Asians - Chinese people, Japanese people, and the like, are very, very dedicated to academics; but they dont negotiate about whos earning what. Some things are private for a reason. And this is why we don’t have many people into research, and that we have failed to produce our own Apples, Googles, and Facebooks. Do we want to thrive in the self-pity of knowing that there are certain people that come from where you do that earn more than well ever earn in a lifetime? NO, right? Or is someones package from some XYZ college of ABC is ever going to affect our lives? Then stop caring. Live your life your way. Aim to learn, aim to succeed. Money will follow. #InsideIIT
