Information from Blue Mountains Fire Control Centre on the bush fire situation Hawkesbury Rd Winmalee. Issued Wednesday 11/9/2013 1700hrs Situation A bush fire is burning in rugged bush-land in the Winmalee area North and South of Hawkesbury Road from High School Drive to the Hawkesbury Lookout. The fire is currently 800 hectares in size and is being controlled. Today, NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire Rescue NSW and National Parks & Wildlife Service, with the assistance of water bombing aircraft, have been working throughout the day mopping up the active edges of the fire ground and conducting backburning operations. Heavy machinery is continuing to construct containment lines and fall back lines in the Yellow Rock Area. Tonight if weather conditions allow, backburning operations will be conducted in Yellow Rock along Yellow Rock Road to Newport Drive. Crews will be mopping up and continue to work throughout the night to strengthen and consolidate containment lines. Projected weather will assist operations during the next few days. The fire is burning in High fire danger conditions and is currently less than two hours from properties. Under these conditions, fires can be difficult to control. Embers may be blown ahead of the fire, creating spot fires. These spot fires may threaten your home earlier than the predicted main fire front. Fire trucks are accessing the fire ground via Hawkesbury Road, Singles Ridge Road and residents are advised to use caution when fire vehicles are approaching. Advice Homes can offer safety. Conditions may be changing. Continue to monitor the situation and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan. Other information • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. • Continue to stay up to date with the bush fire situation by checking rfs.nsw.gov.au, listening to your local radio station or by calling the NSW RFS Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737. • If you live in the area but are away from home, it may not be safe to return to your property. • For information on road closures, check livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au. Roads may be closed without warning. The next update on this fire will be issued by 1700hrs 12/9/2013 or if the situation changes.
